Scripture Study Ideas

I discovered the red headed hostess website a few months ago. I've started a scripture journal . I've downloaded some of her quote collection and have added some of my own from my study of last April's General Conference.

When the notebooks were on sale before school started, I got each of my kids a 'scripture journal'. So far they just have the 'Alma Maps' in theirs. We're still on the first map, and everyday Malia will retell the story that we've covered so far.
There are 3 maps:

I just love her scripture study ideas! She has even come up with Book of Mormon paper dolls you can make. The girls and I are making a set.

My other little idea I got from my neighbor friend. She is having her kids learn the scripture mastery scriptures using music. She sent me this link with the Seminary Scripture Mastery Songs. So far, we've memorized 3 songs. D&C 82:10 is a favorite around here!

Quote of the Day

Last week when my night class was over, my friend had made some chocolate zucchini bread with chocolate chips. Ummmmmmmm. It was so moist and fantastic. I searched the internet and found a recipe similar to the one she used.

(I borrowed this picture off the internet)
I thought it turned out pretty good. Then Jeffrey said, "This tastes pretty good, even though it looks like poop!"

Horse Riding Lessons

Brooklynn is taking horse riding lessons this semester and LOVING it! While she is at the ranch, Malia wanders around interacting with the dogs, horses, and goats. Jeffrey usually plays cards with a few kids who have a sister in Brooklynn's class.
First, the kids go and get their horses from the pasture. Then they get them groomed, saddled, and finally ride. At the end of their class, the kids have a half-hour lecture about horse care, anatomy, saddle care, etc.

Malia trying to stay out of Micheal's way. He's a goat that acts like a dog. He'll follow you around and lean into you so you can pet him.

Oops, Malia got a little too close to this 3 week old miniature horse!

This horse is soooooooo cute and little!

"Micheal" ruined Jeffrey and his friends' game of Uno.

Afternoon at Temple Square

We took the kids to Temple Square. We've gone several times and it seems to rain or sprinkle so the roof to the conference center is closed. Today was sunny and we didn't have other plans. Perfect day for a roof tour, looking at the flowers and moseying around. Jeffrey doesn't find it 'exciting' to go there anymore so we promised him lunch at JB's if he would have a happy attitude. He tried his best, but wouldn't pose for pictures.

Brooklynn enjoyed finding spots for a few snapshots of herself!

Okay, so Jeffrey posed for this one. Notice the strangle hold on his younger sisters.

Malia decided she was done walking around. "Just one more picture? Pretty please? The flowers behind you are so colorful. They need a smiling girl right in front of them." This was the picture she let me take AFTER I bribed her with a cookie! She's too funny.

Yesterday's Bike Ride

Yesterday was such a gorgeous day, we thought we would get out and enjoy the fall weather. This deserted half-finished road is the kids' new favorite place to ride.

A common scene: Brooklynn being chased by Malia and Lily

A tired dog is a happy dog!

We stopped by the park on our way home. Malia's new hairdo: static electricity combined with bright sunshine.

Nature Hour with our Neighbors

The kids met our neighbors. Sure, they moved in months ago. I've seen them outside playing and knew where they lived. What I didn't know is that these cute kids also homeschool! Eureka! My kids are in heaven! Now when they are taking school breaks (a.k.a. recess) they have more kids to play with. I have also made a new friend, their mom. We've had fun carpooling the boys to their book club, going on nature walks, taking a class together, and talking 'homeschool.' Here are a few pictures from our nature walk.

A few flowers left over from summer

Hmmmm. Our path is actually a road that was improved a few years ago but never paved.

Running through the grass, scratching his legs. Next time he'll wear pants.

Scera Pool

The kids BEGGED to come to this pool! I think they were lulled by the colorful buckets of water that spill on top of you, the high dive, lazy river, and the water slides. Not to mention the splash pad. We chose a hot sunny day to come and had a great time!

Jeffrey was underneath this bucket!

Getting out so he can get to the high dive area. Jeffrey and Brooklynn each had several turns jumping into the water. Jeffrey was a big fan of the waterslides, especially the straight one. I went down it once with him and that was enough for me. He went quite a few times.

Malia was so excited she got him with water!!

Look at her jumping off the ground!
