Tornados and Thunderstorms

Last night was our official Welcome to the Midwest. I was talking on the phone to Natalie when tornado sirens went off. We took cover in the basement and watched the news. The storm system came quickly toward us, but fortunately had lost some of it's power. Thank goodness, there is nothing 'interesting' to report. After the near tornado came a thunderstorm. And when it was all said and done we had sunny and clear skies before dark.

Settling In

We invited Grandma and Aunt Emily to come out and help us unpack. What lifesavers! Boxes unpacked (well, most of them), closets organized, pantry organized, pictures hung around the house, curtains up....Looks beautiful! Thank You!!!!!! Family Home Evening at Winter Quarters

News News

We have a bunch of news to post...how our travel went, moving in, etc. I'll have to keep you all in suspense and post later.

We've all been under the weather. The kids have taken turns having fevers and colds. Last night Malia had some stomach issues. Tonight is Jeffrey's turn. So, if Brooklynn is sick tomorrow than we can all be better before my mom and Emily come to visit later in the week!

We made it!

Thursday afternoon, we loaded into the 'family fun mobile' and Mark made one last stop by his work. We drove to Beckley, WV and stopped for the night at a Hampton Inn. We had told the kids they could go swimming, and it was our bribe for the first leg of the journey, but the pool was outside. Too cold.

We woke up the next morning, crossed the "Maury River", passed through Charelston, WV, and crossed the Ohio River. We were in West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois. We rested our heads at a Hampton Inn outside of St. Louis, MO. We dined at the Olive Garden and took the kids swimming a few times in the indoor pool.

After crossing the Missisippi River and seeing the St. Louis Arch Saturday morning, we moseyed our way to the Kansas City area. Snow and ice covered the state maintained roads and we were almost in an accident. A car, just ahead of us decided to come into our lane and slow down. There were no other cars in sight. They must not have seen us. Anyways, we had no time to stop. For a second I was awaiting sounds of clashing metal, but Mark swerved, we slid a bit, and were okay. A clap award to Mark for his great defensive driving skills! We decided to call it a day of traveling and stopped at the next town.

It was the same town we had stopped in moving to VA. So, we stayed at the same hotel with the water slide. Yes, it was about 10 degrees outside and we were playing in the water!

Sunday, we loaded up and drove until we reached our destination. Busy day. We realized that Mark didn't have work shoes for the next day. We spent a few evening hours shopping, finding his new place of employment, going to dinner, and getting a hotel. Of course, an evening swim for the kids for their good behavior:) The temperature: a chilly 17 degrees!! Burrrrrrrrrrrr!

Loading Up

Can I just say the the movers were a LIFESAVER!! We had all of the furniture wrapped in blankets and moving wrap, rooms boxed, beds taken apart and even Speedy's tank ready to go when they got here. We just had a few kitchen cupboards left to box, our bedroom closet, and the bathroom cupboards.

They had all of our stuff loaded in 1 hour and 15 minutes. They were really hustling!! They lifted our sleeper sofa like there was nothing to it. I was amazed. They were definitely worth their weight in gold!

They even loaded Mark's baby (52" plasma screen t.v.- his 'souvenir' from working at Circuit City) on top of a stack of boxes and put our couch cushions on one side and a twin mattress on the other. It's just inches from the ceiling of the truck. We thought that was pretty ingenious.
