I am Sick and Tired
of sick and tired.
I have avoided 'complaining' much about my family's lack of health. We've been sick almost monthly for the last 6 months. We've been teetering between healthy and sick all week. But for the 2 weeks prior, I had sick kids.
I've had it! I'm soooooo done with everyone being sick. Not only do the kids and I get cabin fever, but there is little real progress with homeschool and no housework happens. A little frustrating for me.
I have decided that instead of paying all the doctor and medication co-pays, maybe I should be a little bit more proactive and do things to boost our immunity.
I found several articles online, like this one that addressed things to do to boost the kids' immune systems. Mainly living a healthy lifestyle: adequate sleep, healthy eating, exercise, keeping a routine, multivitamins, etc.
I took Malia to a pediatric D.O. this past week to get some recommendations for supplements because she's so young. Basically the conversation went like this:
D.O.: So what brings your here today?
Me: We've been sick on and off since we moved here.
How long have you been here?
Six months.
I can certainly relate. When I moved here 23 years ago, I throw up every month for a year! It will take a while for your body to adjust to this environment and all of it's germs. It's like a CESSPOOL (love the term) of germs and bacteria because there are so many kids here.
I think we've had our fair share of sickness. We've had 24 hour flu, H1N1, Strep throat, RSV, ear infections, days of not feeling well. So are we done being sick?
Oh, no. Influenza season hasn't even started!
Are you kidding me? Are. you. really. kidding. me? We've already had the flu a couple of times.
Nope. "Flu Season" hasn't started. It should hit in a few weeks.
Arghhhhhhhhh. I'm tired of these kids being sick. What's a good game plan? Flu shots? Probiotics? What should I do?
We'll give them all flu shots today. Probiotics are a great idea. I'm beginnig to think that everyone should take them. And remember, that it could take a year for your bodies to adjust.
Needless to say, I'm expecting several more LONG sleepless nights in the near future. But, keeping my fingers crossed at the same time that we luck out. I've got my cupboards stocked with my arsenal of echinacea, probiotics, multivitamins, vitamin C, zinc, Emergen-C, ibuprofen, and Tylenol. I'm not going down without a fight!!
